Under which conditions do outcome probabilities of measurements possess a quantum-mechanical model? This kind of problem is solved here for the case of two dichotomic von Neumann measurements which can be applied repeatedly to a quantum system with trivial dynamics. The solution uses methods from the theory of operator algebras and the theory of moment problems. The ensuing conditions reveal surprisingly simple relations between certain quantum-mechanical probabilities. It also shown that…

Quantum Teleportation and Grover’s Algorithm Without the Wavefunction

In the same way as the quantum no-cloning theorem and quantum key distribution in two preceding papers, entanglement-assisted quantum teleportation and Grover’s search algorithm are generalized by

The quantum region for von Neumann measurements with postselection

It is determined under which conditions a probability distribution on a finite set can occur as the outcome distribution of a quantum-mechanical von Neumann measurement with postselection, given that

Sequences of projective measurements in generalized probabilistic models

We define a simple rule that allows us to describe sequences of projective measurements for a broad class of generalized probabilistic models. This class embraces quantum mechanics and classical

Transition probabilities and measurement statistics of postselected ensembles

It is well-known that a quantum measurement can enhance the transition probability between two quantum states. Such a measurement operates after preparation of the initial state and before

TSIRELSON'S PROBLEM AND KIRCHBERG'S CONJECTURE

Tsirelson's problem asks whether the set of nonlocal quantum correlations with a tensor product structure for the Hilbert space coincides with the one where only commutativity between observables

Sequential strong measurements and the heat vision effect

We study the scenarios where a finite set of non-demolition von Neumann measurements is available. We note that, in some situations, the repeated application of such measurements allows estimation of

Quantum Bounds for Temporal Correlations

The assumptions of realism and locality lead to bounds on the correlations between observable quantities—the Bell inequalities, and these bounds are violated in quantum mechanics.

Contextual Approach to Quantum Formalism

The aim of this book is to show that the probabilistic formalisms of classical statistical mechanics and quantum mechanics can be unified on the basis of a general contextual probabilistic model. By
