Based on holographic arguments Tanaka and Emparan et al have claimed that large localized static black holes do not exist in the one-brane Randall-Sundrum model. If such black holes are time-dependent as they propose, there are potentially significant phenomenological and theoretical consequences. We revisit the issue, arguing that their reasoning does not take into account the strongly coupled nature of the holographic theory. We claim that static black holes with smooth metrics should indeed…

On the existence of a static black hole on a brane

The possible origins for the nonsystematic error are discussed, and the result is naturally interpreted as the evidence for the nonexistence of solutions to this setup, although an ``approximate'' solution exists for sufficiently small brane tension.

Critical islands

We discuss a doubly-holographic prescription for black holes in braneworlds with a vanishing cosmological constant. It involves calculating Ryu-Takayanagi surfaces in AdS black funnel spacetimes

Braneworld Black Holes

In this article we review the present status of the numerical construction of black holes in the Randall–Sundrum II braneworld model. After reviewing the new numerical methods to solve the elliptic

Quantum effects in black holes from the Schwarzschild black string?

The holographic conjecture for black holes localized on a 3-brane in Randall–Sundrum braneworld models RS2 predicts the existence of a classical 5D time-dependent solution dual to a 4D evaporating

Quasinormal ringing on the brane

While the linear behavior of gravity in braneworld models is well understood, much less is known about full nonlinear gravitational effects. Even when they agree at the linear level, these could be

Constraining the braneworld with gravitational wave observations.

It is shown that the EMRI event rate detected by LISA can constrain l at the approximately 1 microm level for optimal cases, while the observation of a single galactic black hole binary with LISA results in an optimal constraint of l < or = 5 microm.

Gravitational collapse and black hole formation in a braneworld

In this thesis we present the first numerical study of gravitational collapse in braneworlds within the framework of the single brane model proposed by Randall and Sundrum (RSII). We directly show

Time-symmetric initial data of large brane-localized black hole in RS-II model

In the aim of shedding a new light on the classical black hole evaporation conjecture stating that a static brane-localized black hole (BH) larger than the bulk curvature scale does not exist in

Electric charge on the brane

We consider black holes localized on the brane in the Randall-Sundrum infinite braneworld model. These configurations are static and charged with respect to a spherically symmetric, electric Maxwell

Braneworld stars and black holes

We look for spherically symmetric star or black hole solutions on a Randall–Sundrum brane from the perspective of the bulk. We take a known bulk solution, and analyse possible braneworld trajectories

Cutoff AdS/CFT duality and the quest for braneworld black holes

We present significant evidence in favour of the holographic conjecture that “4D black holes localized on the brane found by solving the classical bulk equations in AdS 5 are quantum corrected black

Charged Brane-World Black Holes

We study charged brane-world black holes in the model of Randall and Sundrum in which our universe is viewed as a domain wall in asymptotically anti--de Sitter space. Such black holes can carry two

Classical Black Hole Evaporation in Randall-Sundrum Infinite Braneworld

After the gravity induced on the brane in the Randall-Sundrum (RS) infinite braneworld is briefly reviewed, we discuss the possibility that black holes evaporate as a result of classical evolution in

Gravitational Collapse and Black Hole Evolution — Do Holographic Black Holes Eventually “Anti-Evaporate”? —

We study the gravitational collapse of compact objects in the Brane-World. We begin by arguing that the regularity of the five-dimensional geodesics does not allow the energymomentum tensor of matter

Black Hole Astrophysics in AdS Braneworlds

We consider astrophysics of large black holes localized on the brane in the infinite RandallSundrum model. Using their description in terms of a conformal field theory (CFT) coupled to gravity,

Fate of black string instabilities: An observation

Gregory and Laflamme (hep-th/9301052) have argued that an instability causes the Schwarzschild black string to break up into disjoint black holes. On the other hand, Horowitz and Maeda

Quantum Black Holes as Holograms in AdS Braneworlds

We propose a new approach for using the AdS/CFT correspondence to study quantum black hole physics. The black holes on a brane in an AdSD+1 braneworld that solve the classical bulk equations are

Exact description of black holes on branes

To test recent ideas about lower dimensional gravity bound to a brane, we construct exact solutions describing black holes on two-branes in four dimensions. We find that 2+1 gravity is indeed
