A statistical model of the early stage of central nucleus–nucleus (A+A) collisions is developed. We suggest a description of the confined state with several free parameters fitted to a compilation of A+A data at the AGS. For the deconfined state a simple Bag model equation of state is assumed. The model leads to the conclusion that a Quark Gluon Plasma is created in central nucleus–nucleus collisions at the SPS. This result is in quantitative agreement with existing SPS data on pion and…

Investigating the"kink"plot as a signal of the onset of deconfinement

One of the physics goals of the NA61/SHINE collaboration at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron is to study the phase diagram of hadronic matter. To this end, a series of heavy ion collision

Diagram of High-Energy Nuclear Collisions

Many new particles, mostly hadrons, are produced in high-energy collisions between atomic nuclei. The most popular models describing the hadron-production process are based on the creation, evolution

Strangeness production in heavy-ion collisions

A study of the "horn" in the particle ratio $K^+/\pi^+$ for central heavy-ion collisions as a function of the collision energy $\sqrt{s}$ is presented. We analyse two different interpretations: the

arXiv : Investigating the "kink" plot as a signal of the onset of deconfinement

One of the physics goals of the NA61/SHINE collaboration at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron is to study the phase diagram of hadronic matter. To this end, a series of heavy ion collision

Kaon and open charm production in central lead-lead collisions at the CERN SPS

This thesis describes the experimental study of hadronic systems with a very high energy density and temperature. From theoretical caluclations it is expected that hadronic matter undergoes a phase

Strangeness production in high-energy collisions and Hawking–Unruh radiation

The assumption that the production of quark–antiquark pairs and their sequential string-breaking takes place, likely as a tunneling process, through the event horizon of the color confinement

The (mT) excitation function : freeze-out and equation of state dependence

An integrated Boltzmann+hydrodynamics transport approach is applied to investigate the dependence of the mean transverse mass on the freeze-out and the equation of state over the energy range from

Event-by-Event Fluctuations and the Search for the Critical Point within the NA49 Experiment

Analysis of the event-by-event fluctuations of various hadronic observables reveals new results on hadron ratio fluctuations, in particular K/p fluctuations and their potential connection to the correlation between strangeness and baryon number, thus revealing the basic degrees of freedom produced in heavy-ion collisions.

Transverse pressure and strangeness dynamics in relativistic heavy-ion reactions

Transverse hadron spectra from proton–proton, proton–nucleus and nucleus–nucleus collisions from 2 A GeV to 21.3 A TeV are investigated within two independent transport approaches (HSD and UrQMD).

On event-by-event fluctuations in nuclear collisions

Abstract. We demonstrate that a new type of analysis in heavy-ion collisions, based on an event-by-event analysis of the transverse momentum distribution, allows us to obtain information on secondary

CHARMONIUM SUPPRESSION IN HEAVY-ION COLLISIONS

▪ Abstract Data and their interpretations are reviewed for J/ψ and ψ′ production in heavy-ion collisions with particular emphasis on the recently reported anomaly in Pb-Pb reactions. The observed

Anomalous J / ψ Suppression and the Nature of Deconfinement

We study the characteristic features of J/ψ suppression by deconfinement. A first order deconfinement transition leads to an essentially discontinuous onset of anomalous J/ψ suppression. The
