Evidence is presented that the genera Hedypsilus Simon, 1893 and Modisimus Simon, 1893 are subjective synonyms. Precedence is given to Modisimus over Hedypsilus. The type species of both genera (M. glaucus Simon, 1893 and H. culicinus Simon, 1893) are redescribed. Hedypsilus lawrencei Lessert, 1938 is synonymized with Hedypsilus culicinus Simon, 1893. It appears to be a pantropical, synanthropic species. Preliminary notes on its natural history are presented. Two closely related new species are… Expand
THE PHOLCIDS OF AUSTRALIA (ARANEAE; PHOLCIDAE): TAXONOMY, BIOGEOGRAPHY, AND RELATIONSHIPS
TLDR
This analysis suggests that the two highly diverse genera (Wugigarra, Trichocyclus) are most closely related to New World, African, and Middle Eastern genera. Expand
The oldest fossils of the spider subfamily Modisiminae from the Americas: Description of a new species of the genus Modisimus Simon (Araneae: Pholcidae) from the amber of Mexico with a checklist of the extant Mexican species
Abstract We present two new records and the description of a new fossil species of daddy long-legs spiders of the genus Modisimus Simon, 1893 from the Miocene Aquitanian amber in the state ofExpand
Genital mechanics in some neotropical pholcid spiders (Araneae: Pholcidae), with implications for systematics
TLDR
The study focuses on the function of a pointed and upward projecting (‘pup’) apophysis on the male pedipalpal femur: it engages an indentation in the genital bulb during copulation. Expand
High level of endemism in Haiti's last remaining forests: a revision of Modisimus (Araneae: Pholcidae) on Hispaniola, using morphology and molecules.
TLDR
Phylogenetic analysis indicates that most of these species together represent a species group that is restricted to the paleogeographically distinct southern ‘paleoisland’, and that is otherwise known neither from Hispaniola nor from any other island. Expand
Tbe pholcid spiders of Costa Rica (Araneae: Pholcidae)
TLDR
This paper summarizes the scattered literature and adds two new species as well as three undescribed species, bringing the total number of known Costa Rican pholcids to 33 species representing seven genera. Expand
NEW WORLD PHOLCID SPIDERS (ARANEAE: PHOLCIDAE): A REVISION AT GENERIC LEVEL
TLDR
New World pholcids are revised at the generic level, with an emphasis on South America, and are strongly supported as a monophyletic group. Expand
On American ‘Micromerys’ and Metagonia (Araneae, Pholcidae), with notes on natural history and genital mechanics
TLDR
Arguments are presented to justify the transfer of the American ‘Micromerys’ species to Metagonia, and a detailed account on copulation and genital mechanics is given as a basis for future comparison. Expand
Pholcid spiders from the Lower Guinean region of Central Africa: an overview, with descriptions of seven new species (Araneae, Pholcidae)
TLDR
This paper summarizes current knowledge about Central African pholcids and new records are given for 16 previously described species, including 17 new country records. Expand
On the female of Metagonia taruma (Araneae: Pholcidae), ecology of the pholcid spiders in the Urucu River Basin, Amazonas, Brazil and new records from Brazilian Amazonia
TLDR
The unknown female of Metagonia taruma Huber, 2000 is described, which was discovered after sampling in two forest gap types at Porto Urucu, and the use of Pholcidae species as ecological indicators is promising. Expand
Phylogeny of pholcid spiders (Araneae: Pholcidae): combined analysis using morphology and molecules.
TLDR
The first molecular data for the spider family Pholcidae is presented, providing an excellent basis for future investigations of phylogenetic patterns both within the family and among spider families. Expand

Evidence for Gustatorial Courtship in a Haplogyne Spider (Hedypsilus Culicinus: Pholcidae: Araneae)
TLDR
Gustatorial courtship is for the first time documented in a haplogyne spider, Hedypsilus culicinus Simon, 1893 (Pholcidae), and the convergence to entelegynes is explained by comparable mating position, and body proportions. Expand
