This thesis presents advancements in two of the three avenues for the detection of particle dark matter: direct and indirect searches. The first four chapters provide an introductory overview of particle dark matter and its distribution, evidence and constraints as well as statistical tools used in direct and indirect analyses. The second main segment of the thesis presents LUXCalc, a new utility for calculating likelihoods and deriving WIMP-nucleon coupling limits from the recent results of…

LUX likelihood and limits on spin-independent and spin-dependent WIMP couplings with LUXCalc
We present LUXCalc, a new utility for calculating likelihoods and deriving weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP)-nucleon coupling limits from the recent results of the LUX direct search dark
New limits on spin-independent and spin-dependent couplings of low-mass WIMP dark matter with a germanium detector at a threshold of 220 eV
An energy threshold of (220{+-}10) eV was achieved at an efficiency of 50% with a four-channel ultralow-energy germanium detector, each with an active mass of 5 g. This provides a unique probe to
Bounds on Cross-sections and Lifetimes for Dark Matter Annihilation and Decay into Charged Leptons from Gamma-ray Observations of Dwarf Galaxies
We provide conservative bounds on the dark matter cross section and lifetime from final state radiation produced by annihilation or decay into charged leptons, either directly or via an intermediate
Reconstructing WIMP properties in direct detection experiments including galactic dark matter distribution uncertainties
We present a new method for determining Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) properties in future tonne scale direct detection experiments which accounts for uncertainties in the Milky Way (MW)
On the Direct Detection of Dark Matter
Various issues related to the direct detection of supersymmetric dark matter are reviewed. Such are: 1) Construction of supersymmetric models with a number of parameters, which are constrained from
Lowering the Threshold in the DAMA Dark Matter Search
The DAMA experiment searches for Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) dark matter via its expected but rare interactions within the detector, where the interaction rates will modulate
Exclusion limits on the WIMP-nucleon cross section from the first run of the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search in the Soudan Underground Laboratory
The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS-II) employs low-temperature Ge and Si detectors to seek Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) via their elastic scattering interactions with nuclei.
Likelihood approach to the first dark matter results from XENON100
Many experiments that aim at the direct detection of dark matter are able to distinguish a dominant background from the expected feeble signals, based on some measured discrimination parameter. We
Dark matter direct-detection experiments
In the past decades, several detector technologies have been developed with the quest to directly detect dark matter interactions and to test one of the most important unsolved questions in modern
