The so-called commutative model for two-level systems in metallic glasses, characterised by a local interaction between the two-level systems and the conduction electrons, is analysed in detail, using a recently developed field theoretic method for spin-1/2 to handle the pseudospin operators representing the two-level systems and field theoretic renormalisation group techniques. The author's final conclusions agree with the results of Black and Gyorffy (1978).
