We have used recent observations of helium-4, nitrogen and oxygen from some four dozen, low metallicity, extra-galactic HII regions to define mean $N$ versus $O$, $^4He$ versus $N$ and $^4He$ versus $O$ relations which are extrapolated to zero metallicity to determine the primordial $^4He$ mass fraction $Y_P$. The data and various subsets of the data, selected on the basis of nitrogen and oxygen, are all consistent with $Y_P = 0.232 \pm 0.003$. For the 2$\sigma$ (statistical) upper bound we…

Cosmological variation of the deuteron binding energy, strong interaction, and quark masses from big bang nucleosynthesis
We use big bang nucleosynthesis calculations and light element abundance data to constrain the relative variation of the deuteron binding energy since the Universe was a few minutes old,
A Bayesian Estimate of the Primordial Helium Abundance
We introduce a new statistical method to estimate the primordial helium abundance Yp from observed abundances in a sample of galaxies that have experienced stellar helium enrichment. Rather than
On the Primordial Helium Content: Cosmic Microwave Background and Stellar Constraints
We present the results of a joint investigation aimed at constraining the primordial He content (YP) on the basis of both the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy and two stellar observables,
Addendum to: Update on neutrino mixing in the early Universe
In the light of the recent WMAP results we update the constraints on a class of nonstandard big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) models with a simultaneous combination of nonstandard neutrino distributions
Testing primordial abundances with sterile neutrinos
The mixing between sterile and active neutrinos is taken into account in the calculation of Big Bang Nucleosynthesis. The abundances of primordial elements, like D, $^{3}\mathrm{He}$,
The primordial abundance of4He: An update
We include new data in an updated analysis of helium in low-metallicity extragalactic H II regions with the goal of deriving the primordial abundance of 4He (YP). We show that the new observations of
THE PRIMORDIAL HELIUM ABUNDANCE: SYSTEMATIC EFFECTS AND A NEW DETERMINATION
We present new high-quality spectrophotometric observations of 27 supergiant H II regions in 23 low-metallicity blue compact galaxies (BCGs) with oxygen abundance 12 + log (O/H) between 7.22 and 8.17
Neutron diffusion and nucleosynthesis in an inhomogeneous big bang model
This article presents an original code for big bang nucleosynthesis in a baryon inhomogeneous model of the Universe. In this code neutron diffusion between high and low baryon density regions is
The Solar Helium Abundance in the Outer Corona Determined from Observations with SUMER/SOHO
At altitudes of about 1.05 R☉ or more, the corona above quiet solar regions becomes essentially isothermal. This obviates many of the difficulties associated with the inverse problem of determining
The Primordial Helium Abundance: Toward Understanding and Removing the Cosmic Scatter in the dY/dZ Relation
We present results from photoionization models of low-metallicity H II regions. These nebulae form the basis for measuring the primordial helium abundance. Our models show that the helium ionization
