We find that low-mass halo stars on radial orbits that are located within 2 kpc of the Sun have at least two distinct components; the velocity and photometrically determined metallicity distributions of these components cannot be explained by a single radial merger event (RME). The first component has [Fe/H] ∼ −1.6, accounts for one third of halo stars near the Sun, and is consistent with the Virgo Radial Merger (VRM); it has previously been shown that the VRM was accreted into the Milky Way…
