Abstract In this study we concentrate on qualitative topological analysis of the local behavior of the space of natural images. To this end, we use a space of 3 by 3 high-contrast patches ℳ. We develop a theoretical model for the high-density 2-dimensional submanifold of ℳ showing that it has the topology of the Klein bottle. Using our topological software package PLEX we experimentally verify our theoretical conclusions. We use polynomial representation to give coordinatization to various…
A topological analysis of high-contrast patches in natural images
In this paper, we study qualitative topological analysis of spaces of natural images locally. We apply the techniques of computational topology to the space of 3×3, 4×4, 5×5, 6×6 and 7×7
A Topological Analysis of the Space of Natural Images
In this paper we study the space of natural images locally. We apply the techniques of computational algebraic topology to the space of 3x3 and 5x5 high-contrast patches and show that in both cases,
An Analysis on Natural Image Small Patches
TLDR
The experimental results show that there exist subspaces of the spaces of 8x8 and 9x9-patches that are topologically equivalent to a circle and a Klein bottle respectively, extending the results of the paper on the local behavior of spaces of natural images to the larger patches.
An Analysis of Spaces of Range Image Small Patches
In the paper some topological properties of spaces of range images are studied partially. The methods of com- puting topology are used into the spaces of 44 and 66 high contrast blocks, the
Applications of Algebraic Topology to Video Compression
TLDR
A computational tool known as Persistent Homology was applied to point-cloud data sets and insights on the data from the induced barcodes were extracted and it was found that sub-manifolds of this point cloud have the topological properties of a connected bouquet of spheres.

A topological analysis on patches of optical flow
The research of optical flow is vitally important topic in computer vision. In this paper we research a topological analysis of space of optical flow locally. We use the methods of computing topology
Image Processing with Non-local Spectral Bases

The Nonlinear Statistics of High-Contrast Patches in Natural Images
TLDR
This study explores the space of data points representing the values of 3 × 3 high-contrast patches from optical and 3D range images and finds that the distribution of data is extremely “sparse” with the majority of the data points concentrated in clusters and non-linear low-dimensional manifolds.

Invariant Statistics and Coding of Natural Microimages
TLDR
The results suggest that well-chosen patch labels might serve as elementary features in pattern recognition and other imaging problems in which the structure of the grey level con gurations is not essential, and a computationally feasible way to carry this out using tree-structured vector quantization is sketched.
Topological estimation using witness complexes
TLDR
This paper tackles the problem of computing topological invariants of geometric objects in a robust manner, using only point cloud data sampled from the object, and produces a nested family of simplicial complexes, which represent the data at different feature scales, suitable for calculating persistent homology.
Computing persistent homology
TLDR
The analysis establishes the existence of a simple description of persistent homology groups over arbitrary fields and derives an algorithm for computing individual persistent homological groups over an arbitrary principal ideal domain in any dimension.
A Weak Definition of Delaunay Triangulation
We show that the traditional criterion for a simplex to belong to the Delaunay triangulation of a point set is equivalent to a criterion which is a priori weaker. The argument is quite general; as

TLDR
The results obtained with six natural images suggest that the orientation and the spatial-frequency tuning of mammalian simple cells are well suited for coding the information in such images if the goal of the code is to convert higher-order redundancy into first- order redundancy.
Topological Persistence and Simplification
TLDR
Fast algorithms for computing persistence and experimental evidence for their speed and utility are given for topological simplification within the framework of a filtration, which is the history of a growing complex.
Topological analysis of population activity in visual cortex.
TLDR
It is found that the topological structure of activity patterns when the cortex is spontaneously active is similar to those evoked by natural image stimulation and consistent with the topology of a two sphere.
Human discrimination of fractal images.
TLDR
This paper investigates the question of which value of the exponent beta describes the power spectrum of the ensemble of images to which the visual system is optimally tuned, and results are consistent with, but do not provide direct evidence for, the theory that thevisual system is tuned to an ensemble of image with Markov statistics.
