We study the existence and properties of fast magnetosonic modes in 3D compressible MHD turbulence by carrying out a number of simulations with compressible and incompressible driving conditions. We use two approaches to determine the presence of fast modes: mode decomposition based on spatial variations only and spatio-temporal 4D fast Fourier transform (4D FFT) analysis of all fluctuations. The latter method enables us to quantify fluctuations that satisfy the dispersion relation of fast…

Interplay between Alfvén and magnetosonic waves in compressible magnetohydrodynamics turbulence
Using spatio-temporal spectra, we show direct evidence of excitation of magnetosonic and Alfven waves in three-dimensional compressible magnetohydrodynamic turbulence at small Mach numbers. For the
Spatiotemporal Analysis of Waves in Compressively Driven Magnetohydrodynamics Turbulence
Using direct numerical simulations (DNSs), the interaction between linear waves and turbulence under the compressible magnetohydrodynamic (CMHD) approach was studied. A set of DNSs in three
Coexistence of Slow-mode and Alfvén-mode Waves and Structures in 3D Compressive MHD Turbulence
The compressible component of solar wind turbulence displays a slow-mode feature. However, the nature of the slow-mode fluctuations remain open. In this work, based on numerical simulations of the
Compressible magnetohydrodynamic turbulence: mode coupling, scaling relations, anisotropy, viscosity-damped regime and astrophysical implications
We present numerical simulations and explore scalings and anisotropy of compressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. Our study covers both gas-pressure-dominated (high β) and
Nearly incompressible fluids. II - Magnetohydrodynamics, turbulence, and waves
The theory of nearly incompressible (NI) fluid dynamics developed previously for hydrodynamics is extended to magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). On the basis of a singular expansion technique, modified
Waves and turbulence in magnetohydrodynamic direct numerical simulations
Direct numerical simulations of the incompressible MHD equations with a uniform background magnetic field in a turbulent regime are performed to assess the relative importance of broadband turbulent
Toward a theory of interstellar turbulence. 2. Strong Alfvenic turbulence
We continue to investigate the possibility that interstellar turbulence is caused by nonlinear interactions among shear Alfven waves. Here, as in Paper I, we restrict attention to the symmetric case
The Origin of Compressible Magnetic Turbulence in the Very Local Interstellar Medium
Voyager 1 observed compressible magnetic turbulence in the very local interstellar medium ( VLISM ) . We show that inner heliosheath ( IHS ) fast- and slow-mode waves incident on the heliopause ( HP
Energy occupation of waves and structures in 3D compressive MHD turbulence
Structures and propagating waves are often observed in solar wind turbulence. Their origins and features remain to be uncovered. In this work, we use 3D driven, compressible MHD turbulence
Wave turbulence in magnetized plasmas
The paper reviews the recent progress on wave tur- bulence for magnetized plasmas (MHD, Hall MHD and elec- tron MHD) in the incompressible and compressible cases. The emphasis is made on homogeneous
