We present stellar photometry of two HST/WFPC2 fields situated at the far periphery of the poststarburst galaxy NGC 1569. Their F606W and F814W images have been taken from the HST data archive. Judging by the obtained color-magnitude diagrams, we suggest presence of the old disk population (old red giants) of NGC 1569, which extends as far as Field I at ∼6 kpc from the galaxy center. We use the tip of the red giant branch to estimate the galaxy distance. There are two possible solutions, one…
A New Hubble Space Telescope Distance to NGC 1569: Starburst Properties and IC 342 Group Membership*
We present deep HST ACS/WFC photometry of the dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 1569, one of the closest and strongest nearby starburst galaxies. These data allow us, for the first time, to unequivocally
The Complex Star Formation History of NGC 1569
We present new results on the star formation history of the dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 1569. The data were obtained with Hubble Space Telescope’s NICMOS/NIC2 in the F110W (J) and F160W (H)
Formation and evolution of late-type dwarf galaxies — I. NGC 1705 and NGC 1569
We present one-zone chemical evolution models for two dwarf starburst galaxies, NGC 1705 and NGC 1569. Though especially designed for the inner ∼1 kpc region, where numerous H n regions and most of
Star formation history and environment of the dwarf galaxy UGCA 92
We present a quantitative star formation history of the nearby dwarf galaxy UGCA 92. This irregular dwarf is situated in the vicinity of the Local Group of galaxies in a zone of strong Galactic
A Catalog of Neighboring Galaxies
We present an all-sky catalog of 451 nearby galaxies, each having an individual distance estimate D 10 Mpc or a radial velocity VLG -17.0, which contribute about 4% to the local luminosity density,
Infrared Properties of Star-forming Dwarf Galaxies. I. Dwarf Irregular Galaxies in the Local Volume*
A sample of 34 dwarf irregular galaxies (dIs) in the Local Volume, most nearer than 5 Mpc, has been imaged in the near-infrared (NIR) in J and Ks at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) in
The GALEX Ultraviolet Atlas of Nearby Galaxies
We present images, integrated photometry, and surface-brightness and color profiles for a total of 1034 nearby galaxies recently observed by the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) satellite in its
Triggering and Feedback: The Relation between the H I Gas and the Starburst in the Dwarf Galaxy NGC 1569
As part of our study on the impact of violent star formation on the interstellar medium (ISM) of dwarf galaxies, we report observations of neutral atomic hydrogen (H I) in the starburst dwarf galaxy
Star Formation in Clusters
HST is very well tailored for observations of extragalactic star clusters. One obvious reason is HST's high spatial resolution, but equally important is the wavelength range offered by the
Anatomy of a young massive star cluster: NGC 1569-B
We present new H-band echelle spectra, obtained with the NIRSPEC spectrograph at Keck II, for the massive star cluster ‘B’ in the nearby dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 1569. From spectral synthesis and
