Abstract Let G be a unimodular locally compact group. We define a property of irreducible unitary G-representations V which we call c-temperedness, and which for the trivial V boils down to Følner’s condition (equivalent to the trivial V being tempered, i.e. to G being amenable). The property of c-temperedness is a-priori stronger than the property of temperedness. We conjecture that for semisimple groups over local fields temperedness implies c-temperedness. We check the conjecture for a…

Riesz operators and some spherical representations for hyperbolic groups

We introduce the Riesz operator in the context of Gromov hyperbolic groups in order to investigate a one parameter family of non unitary boundary Hilbertian representations of hyperbolic groups. We

Estimates for matrix coefficients of representations

Estimates for matrix coefficients of unitary representations of semisimple Lie groups have been studied for a long time, starting with the seminal work by Bargmann, by Ehrenpreis and Mautner, and by

Unitary representations and modular actions

We call a measure-preserving action of a countable discrete group on a standard probability space tempered if the associated Koopman representation restricted to the orthogonal complement to the

Almost L2 matrix coefficients.

The purpose of this note is to insert into the literature two long-but-not-wellknown facts about matrix coefficients of unitary representations. Our first theorem concerns general locally compact
