After the rational operations of arithmetic, the extraction of square roots is probably the most frequently employed operation in computations. The need for efficient methods of performing the latter arose early in such applications as mensuration, and the development of such methods is discussed in virtually all of the older standard histories of mathematics. But two developments in the past four decades have influenced present knowledge considerably: Archeological discoveries and recent…
A Low Latency Stochastic Square Root Circuit
The proposed SSRC is validated on two standard images forsquare root based contrast enhancement function to reveal close proximity with the traditional square root based enhanced image compared to other existing SSRCs.
Matters Computational: Ideas, Algorithms, Source Code
This book provides algorithms and ideas for computationalists on low-level algorithms, bit wizardry, combinatorial generation, fast transforms like the Fourier transform, and fast arithmetic for both real numbers and finite fields.

grouping The abstracts have been grouped according to their subject matter. This has not always been easy, since there is often a degree of overlap. If authors feel they have been misallocated,

Archimedes and the measurement of the circle: A new interpretation
In the third propos i t ion of the Dimensio Circuti, ARCHIMEDES established 3-~ as an upper bound , 3~7~ ° as a lower b o u n d for the ra t io of the perimeter to the diameter of the circle.
Computation of π Using Arithmetic-Geometric Mean
A new formula for π is derived. It is a direct consequence of Gauss’ arithmetic-geometric mean, the traditional method for calculating elliptic integrals, and of Legendre’s relation for elliptic

General Preliminaries: 1.1 Introduction 1.2 Basic concepts and notations General Theorems on Iteration Functions: 2.1 The solution of a fixed-point problem 2.2 Linear and superlinear convergence 2.3
The Square Root of 2 to 1,000,000 Decimals
The square root of 2 has been calculated to 1,000,000 decimals on a large-scale digital computer and the result has been verified. The calculation was based on a specially developed algorithm for
A history of Greek mathematics
A text which looks at the history of Greek mathematics - a subject on which the author established a special authority by his succession of works on Diophantus, Apolonius of Perga, Archimedes, Euclid
