We investigate structural properties of old, metal-poor globular clusters (GCs) formed at high redshifts (z > 6) and located inside and outside virialized galaxy-scale haloes in clusters of galaxies with the total masses of MCL based on high-resolution cosmological simulations with models of GC formation. We mainly derive the parameter dependences of physical properties of intracluster GCs (ICGCs) based on the results of 14 cluster models. Our principle results are summarized as follows…

Formation of Intracluster and Intercluster Globular Clusters

Based on high-resolution cosmological simulations with models of GC formation at high redshifts (z > 6), we investigate structural and kinematical properties of intracluster globular clusters (ICGCs)

Substructure in the Globular Cluster Populations of the Virgo Cluster Elliptical Galaxies M84 and M86

We have carried out a search for substructure within the globular cluster (GC) systems of M84 (NGC 4374) and M86 (NGC 4406), two giant elliptical galaxies in the Virgo Cluster. We use wide-field (36′

Detection of a Large-Scale Structure of Intracluster Globular Clusters in the Virgo Cluster

A map showing the large-scale distribution of globular clusters over the entire Virgo cluster shows that IGCs are found out to 5 million light years from the Virgo center and that they are concentrated in several substructures that are much larger than galaxies.

The globular cluster systems of Abell 1185

We examine the properties of a previously discovered population of globular clusters in the heart of the rich galaxy cluster Abell 1185 that might be intergalactic in nature. Deep images obtained

Formation of the Galactic globular clusters with He-rich stars in low-mass haloes virialized at high redshift

Recent observations have reported that the Galactic globular clusters (GCs) with unusually extended horizontal-branch (EHB) morphologies show a significantly lower velocity dispersion compared with

The connection between globular cluster systems and their host galaxy and environment: a case study of the isolated elliptical NGC 821

In an effort to probe the globular cluster (GC) system of an isolated elliptical galaxy, a comprehensive analysis of the NGC 821 GC system was performed. New imaging from the WIYN Mini-Mosaic imager,

Origin of lower velocity dispersions of ultra-compact dwarf galaxy populations in clusters of galaxies

Recent observations have revealed that velocity dispersions of 'ultra-compact dwarf' (UCD) galaxies are significantly smaller than those of other galaxy populations in the Fornax and the Virgo

We report on a large-scale study of the distribution of globular clusters (GCs) throughout the Virgo cluster, based on photometry from the Next Generation Virgo Cluster Survey (NGVS), a large imaging

On a possible origin for the lack of old star clusters in the Small Magellanic Cloud

We model the dynamical interaction between the Small and Large Magellanic Clouds and their corresponding stellar cluster populations. Our goal is to explore whether the lack of old clusters (7 Gyr)

A new method for estimating dark matter halo masses using globular cluster systems

All galaxies are thought to reside within large haloes of dark matter, whose properties can only be determined from indirect observations. The formation and assembly of galaxies is determined from

Formation of intracluster globular clusters

We first present the results of numerical simulations on formation processes and physical properties of old globular clusters (GCs) located within clusters of galaxies (‘intracluster GCs’) and in

Kinematics of globular cluster systems and the formation of early-type galaxies

We numerically investigate the kinematic properties of globular cluster systems (GCSs) in E/S0 galaxies formed from dissipationless merging of spiral galaxies. The metal-poor globular clusters (MPCs)

M87, Globular Clusters, and Galactic Winds: Issues in Giant Galaxy Formation

We have used the high-resolution camera at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope to obtain VRI photometry of the globular clusters in the innermost 140″ of the M87 halo. The results are used to discuss

The U-shaped Distribution of Globular Cluster-specific Frequencies in a Biased Globular Cluster Formation Scenario

Using high-resolution numerical simulations, we investigate mass- and luminosity-normalized specific frequencies (TN and SN, respectively) of globular cluster systems (GCSs) in order to understand

Compositions of halo clusters and the formation of the galactic halo

A method of abundance determination based on reddening-independent properties of low-resolution spectral scans is described and applied to 177 red giants in 19 globular clusters, most of which are at

On the formation of globular cluster systems in a hierarchical Universe

ABSTRA C T We have investigated the formation of globular cluster (GC) systems in the fiducial semianalytic model of galaxy formation of Cole et al., by assuming that GCs are formed at high redshifts

Dynamical evolution of globular cluster systems in clusters of galaxies: I. The case of NGC 1404 in the Fornax cluster

We investigate, via numerical simulations, the tidal stripping and accretion of globular clusters (GCs). In particular, we focus on creating models that simulate the situation for the GC systems of

The Efficiency of Globular Cluster Formation

The specific frequencies of globular cluster systems, SN ∝ 𝒩tot/LV,gal ∝ Mgcs/Mstars, are discussed in terms of their connection to the efficiency of globular cluster formation in galaxy halos,

The Globular Cluster System of NGC 1399. II. Kinematics of a Large Sample of Globular Clusters

We study the kinematics and dynamics of the globular cluster system of NGC 1399, the brightest elliptical galaxy near the center of the Fornax cluster of galaxies. The observational data consists of

Metal-poor Globular Clusters and the Formation of Their Host Galaxies

We have determined the total numbers and specific frequencies of blue, metal-poor globular clusters (GCs) in eight spiral and early-type galaxies. These data, along with five measurements from the
