We reexamine the model of natural inflation, in which the inflaton potential is flat due to shift symmetries. The original version of the model, where the inflaton is a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson with potential of the form V({phi})={lambda}{sup 4}[1{+-}cos({phi}/f)], is studied in light of recent data. We find that the model is alive and well. Successful inflation as well as data from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe require f>0.6m{sub Pl} (where m{sub Pl}=1.22x10{sup 19} GeV) and… Expand
Natural braneworld inflation in light of recent results from Planck and BICEP2
In this paper we report on a major theoretical observation in cosmology. We present a concrete cosmological model for which inflation has a natural beginning and natural ending. Inflation is drivenExpand
Natural inflation: Status after WMAP 3-year data
The model of natural inflation is examined in light of recent 3-year data from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe and shown to provide a good fit. The inflaton potential is naturally flat dueExpand
Quasi-single field inflation in the non-perturbative regime
A bstractIn quasi-single field inflation there are massive fields that interact with the inflaton field. If these other fields are not much heavier than the Hubble constant during inflation (H) theseExpand
Observational Status of Tachyon Natural Inflation and Reheating
We study observational viability of Natural Inflation with a tachyon field as inflaton. By obtaining the main perturbation parameters in this model, we perform a numerical analysis on the parameterExpand
Natural inflation: consistency with cosmic microwave background observations of Planck and BICEP2
Natural inflation is a good fit to all cosmic microwave background (CMB) data and may be the correct description of an early inflationary expansion of the Universe. The large angular scale CMBExpand
Eliminating the η-problem in SUGRA hybrid inflation with vector backreaction
It is shown that, when the inflaton field modulates the gauge kinetic function of the gauge fields in supergravity realisations of inflation, the dynamic backreaction leads to a new inflationaryExpand
Warm natural inflation
Abstract In warm inflation models there is the requirement of generating large dissipative couplings of the inflaton with radiation, while at the same time, not de-stabilising the flatness of theExpand
3 EFI-0310 hep-th / 0303087 Closed String Tachyon Condensation and Worldsheet Inflation
Closed string tachyon condensation in spacetime generates potentials on the worldsheet that model two-dimensional inflationary cosmology. These models illustrate and elucidate a variety of aspects ofExpand
Conformal standard model and inflation
This thesis presents a possible inflation scenario as a consequence of non-minimal gravitational couplings in the Conformal Standard Model. That model consists, in comparison to the SM, of additionalExpand
Natural braneworld inflation and baryogenesis
Abstract In natural inflation models, the inflaton is a pseudo Nambu–Goldstone boson and the flatness of the potential is protected by shift symmetries. In this framework, a successful inflationExpand

We present a model for slow-rollover inflation where the vacuum energy that drives inflation is of the order of ${\mathit{G}}_{\mathit{F}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}2}$; unlike most models, theExpand
Little inflatons and gauge inflation
Cosmological inflation gives a natural answer for a variety of cosmological questions, including the horizon problem, the flatness problem, and others. However, inflation yields new questionsExpand
WMAP and inflation
Abstract We assay how inflationary models whose properties are dominated by the dynamics of a single scalar field are constrained by cosmic microwave background (CMB) data from the WilkinsonExpand
How long before the end of inflation were observable perturbations produced
We reconsider the issue of the number of e-foldings before the end of inflation at which observable perturbations were generated. We determine a plausible upper limit on that number for the standardExpand
What Would We Learn by Detecting a Gravitational Wave Signal in the Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropy
Inflation generates gravitational waves, which may be observable in the low multipoles of the cosmic microwave background anisotropy but only if the inflaton field variation is at least of order theExpand
Inflationary physics from the Wilkinson microwave anisotropy probe
We extract parameters relevant for distinguishing among single-field inflation models from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data set, and from a combination of the WMAP data and sevenExpand
Constraining Inflation with Cosmic Microwave Background Polarization
Observations of the polarization of the cosmic microwave backround (CMB) have the potential to place much tighter constraints on cosmological parameters than observations of the fluctuations inExpand
Extranatural inflation.
TLDR
A new model of inflation is presented in which the inflaton is the extra component of a gauge field in a 5D theory compactified on a circle so that its flatness is not spoiled by higher-dimensional operators or quantum gravity corrections. Expand
The energy scale of inflation: is the hunt for the primordial B-mode a waste of time?
Abstract Recent theoretical results indicate that the detection of primordial gravity waves from inflation may be a hopeless task. First, foregrounds from lensing put a strict lower limit on theExpand
