1 I n t r o d u c t i o n The basic idea behind secret shar ing schemes and their relevance to cryptology is well documented (see [25]). Informal ly a secret sharing scheme permi t s a group of part ic ipants to jo in t ly protect a secret through the issue of a related share of the secret to each par t ic ipant .
