In this paper we investigate the impact of permanent oscillations Pc3 on the excitation of sporadic oscillations Pi2 ( their periods are 10-45 and 40-150 s, respectively ). The hypothesis is formulated that Pc3 oscillations originating in front of the magnetosphere penetrate into the geomagnetic tail, cause a local depression in the current in the neutral sheet, and under favorable conditions stimulate a tearing instability. This leads to reconnection of magnetic field lines and an explosive…

Dependence of the aftershock flow on the main shock magnitude

Previously, we predicted and then observed in practice the property of aftershocks which consists in the statistically regular clustering of events in time during the first hours after the main

The effect of heavy ions on the spectrum of oscillations of the magnetosphere

Some issues concerning the influence of multi-ion composition of plasma on the spectrum of ultralow frequency (ULF) oscillations in the magnetosphere are analyzed. Main emphasis is made on the

Diagnostics of the magnetosphere and interplanetary medium by means of pulsations

The possibility of diagnostics of the interplanetary magnetic field using the data of ground observations of Pc3, 4 pulsations is investigated. Both empirical and theoretical foundations of this

Geomagnetic micropulsations and diagnostics of the magnetosphere

Plasma oscillations in a wide range of spectrum exist in the magnetosphere. Part of them penetrate the ionosphere and are recorded on the earth's surface. In the range of frequencies from millihertz

Geomagnetic diagnosis of the magnetosphere

The geomagnetic field observed on the surface of the earth has been an important source of information on the dynamic behavior of the magnetosphere. Because the. magnetosphere and its environment are

Magnetic field line reconnection

The term 'magnetic field line reconnection' has arisen in the physics of rarefied plasmas with very high conductivity. When such a plasma is in motion, the remarkable property of field line 'freezing

Note on the dependence of Pc3-4 activity on the solar wind velocity

The propagation of electromagnetic waves in plasmas

Green's function techniques are used to treat the propagation of electromagnetic waves in uniform, weakly interacting plasmas near equilibrium in the absence of external magnetic fields. The
