Possibly the interpretation of the lexical items “if” and “only” is the subject disputed most in the largest number of language oriented disciplines, such as logic, natural language semantics, cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence. In this paper I want to focus on the logical and linguistic aspects of these items. I do not aim to present a brand new theory about or new insights on the two subjects.
