Will weather forecasting ever be perfect? Looking at the history of numerical weather prediction (NWP), a continuous upward trend in predictive skill is evident. This may give the impression that achieving the perfect forecast is only a matter of time. A problem, however, lies in the fact that the atmosphere is chaotic, which results in an inherent unpredictability in our forecasts.
