Octanoate and palmitateβ-oxidation in human leukocytes: Implications for the rapid diagnosis of fatty acidβ-oxidation disorders

Abstract

The results described in this paper show that leukocytes have appreciable octanoate and palmitateβ-oxidation activity. Furthermore, in three patients with an established defect in mitochondrialβ-oxidation, octanoate and palmitateβ-oxidation measurements in leukocytes revealed clear abnormalities.
