Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mycotoxin produced as a secondary metabolite by filamentous fungi, such as Aspergillus and Penicillium. Because OTA is a common contaminant of food and feeds, humans and animals are frequently exposed to OTA in daily life. It has been classified as a carcinogen in rodents and a possible carcinogen in humans.
