Ocean Acoustic Waveguide Remote Sensing (OAWRS) has been recently shown to be capable of instantaneously imaging and continuously monitoring fish populations over large continental shelf-scale areas at an areal rate of tens of thousands to millions of times greater than that of conventional methods.
