SummaryThe fish acanthocephalan fauna of Turkish waters is poorly known. In this study 8 fish species (Merluccius merluccius, Trachurus trachurus, Uranoscopus scaber, Gobius niger, G. cobitis, Scorpaena scrofa, Eutrigla gurnardus, Solea vulgaris) were collected from Gemlik Bay and examined for their acanthocephalan fauna. Four species not previously recorded in fish of Turkish waters were found: Solearhynchus soleae (Echinorhynchidae), Acanthhocephaloides propinquus, Paracanthocephaloides… Expand

A Review of the Parasites Infecting Fishes of the Genus Trachurus (Pisces: Carangidae)
TLDR
The present review aims to compile the up-to-date knowledge on the occurrence of parasites of horse mackerels, from protozoans to metazoans, their distribution in diverse geographical areas, and to review and provide references to the studies of parasites as indicators of population structure. Expand
Acanthocephalan parasites of marine fish Johnius aneus (bloch 1793) from Visakhapatnam coast, Andhra Pradesh
A survey has been conducted to collect metazoan parasites from Johnius aneus ( Bloch 1793) off Visakhapatnam coast.  Four Acanthocephalan species were identified, they are Rhadinorhynchus ganapatiExpand
Solearhynchus kostylewi (Meyer, 1932) comb. nov. (acanthocephala: Echinorhynchidae), a rare parasite of Solea solea (pisces: soleidae) in the Gemlik Bay, Sea of Marmara.
TLDR
The species is redescribed on the basis of newly collected material from the Gemlik Bay, Sea of Marmara and a key to the species of Solearhynchus is provided. Expand
The occurrence of acanthocephalans in teleost fish from the Bizerte lagoon, Tunisia.
TLDR
The diversity of the acanthocephalan fauna in the fish from the Bizerte lagoon is compared with previous studies from other localities and the report of A. incrassatus, A. propinquus and N. (N.) rutili in L. mormyrus presents new host records in Mediterranean waters is presented. Expand
Acanthocephaloides irregularis n. sp. (Acanthocephala: Arhythmacanthidae) from marine fishes off the Ukrainian Black Sea coast
TLDR
The new species is unique in having an anterior trunk collar, a very large triangular cephalic ganglion, nucleated pouches at the posterior end of the proboscis receptacle, and hooks and spines with roots bearing anterior manubria. Expand
Description of Harpagorhynchus golvaneuzeti n. gen. n. sp. (Acanthocephala, Harpagorhynchinae n. sub-fam.) with a review of acanthocephalan parasites of soleid fishes in the Mediterranean Basin
TLDR
A critical review of the literature on echinorhynchid species infecting soleid fishes in the Mediterranean basin showed that Solearhynchus soleae should be considered a junior synonym of S. rhytidotes (Monticelli, 1905) and that S. kostylewi (Meyer, 1932) is a valid species. Expand
Protozoan and Metazoan Parasites of Cultured Fish in Turkey and their Applied Treatments
TLDR
The parasite- host lists are organized on a taxonomic basis and provide information for parasite species found on host species, known geographic distributions in Turkey, and published sources for each host and locality record. Expand
SOLEARHYNCHUS KOSTYLEWI ( MEYER , 1932 ) COMB . NOV . ( ACANTHOCEPHALA : ECHINORHYNCHIDAE ) , A RARE PARASITE OF SOLEA SOLEA ( PISCES : SOLEIDAE ) IN THE GEMLIK BAY , SEA OF MARMARA
Paracanthocephaloides kostylewi (Meyer, 1932), a rare parasite of the common sole Solea solea, previously placed in the Arhythmacanthidae, is transfered to the genus Solearhynchus de Buron &Expand

PARASITISM OF GOBIUS BUCCHICHII STEINDACHNER, 1870 (TELEOSTEI, GOBIIDAE) IN PROTECTED AND UNPROTECTED MARINE ENVIRONMENTS
TLDR
Fishes collected in a protected area were on average, larger, older, had a higher percentage of regenerated scales, and harbored more parasites. Expand
Population biology of two helminth parasites of flatfishes from the Atlantic coast of Morocco
TLDR
The observation of B. andresi and A. propinquus in both Moroccan Atlantic and Mediterranean fishes highlights the problem of the evolution of these parasite populations during the colonization of the Mediterranean by the hosts. Expand
Acanthocephaloides cyrusi n. sp. (Acanthocephala: Arhythmacanthidae) from southeast African teleost fishes
TLDR
A new species, Canthocephaloides cyrusi, is described from the fishes Solea bleekeri and Pomadasys commersoni from Lake St. Lucia, Natal, South Africa by the more marked sexual dimorphism in length, the arrangement of hooks, the proboscis with the longest hooks at the anterior-most extremity and the greater size of the Proboscis hooks and body spines. Helminth parasite communities of the conger eel in the estuaries of Arousa and Muros (Galicia, north‐west Spain)
TLDR
The species composition and abundance of the nematode, cestode and acanthocephalan fauna of Conger conger, on the north-west Spanish coast may depend more on population isolation and variations in trophic chains between the sites studied than on the particular environmental conditions of the sites. Expand
Parasite community study of the undulate ray Raja undulata in the Rı́a of Muros (Galicia, northwest Spain)
TLDR
Analysis of the species compositions of single-host parasite communities, considering cestodes only, suggests that negative interspecific interactions do not occur, despite the typically large size and abundance of the parasites, and their spatial concentration in the spiral valve. Expand
Abdominal macroparasites of commercially important flatfishes (Teleostei: Scophthalmidae, Pleuronectidae, Soleidae) in northwest Spain (ICES IXa)
TLDR
There were marked differences between the three areas (particularly between the offshore areas and MI) in the identity of the helminth species present and their abundances, so some of the parasites found may thus be useful markers of different flatfish populations in this area. Expand
Sex discriminatory effect of the acanthocephalan Acanthocephaloides propinquus on a gobiid fish Gobius bucchichii.
TLDR
The results showed that at the same level of infection in male and female gobiids, the female's reproductive success was negatively correlated to parasite abundance while the male's reproductivesuccess was not, and hypothesized that it might be more difficult for females to compensate the cost of parasitism because of the very high cost of egg production.
