We tested the frequency of occult hepatitis B infection (OBI) among Egyptian healthcare workers (HCWs). We tested 132 HCWs for hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA by nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and hepatitis C virus antibody (anti-HCV) by ELISA. HCV RNA was measured by nested PCR in anti-HCV-positive HCWs. HBV-DNA-positive HCWs were subjected to HBV genotyping. We included 132 HCWs who were negative for hepatitis B surface antigen and positive for hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc). OBI…
Prevalence of Occult Hepatitis B in HIV Positive Patients (Adolescents and Adults) in Kermanshah- Iran
TLDR
It is thought that screening for OBI would be useful for HIV-infected patients, especially male patients, as it did not find any significant association between OBI and studied factors except for gender.
Occult Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and challenges for hepatitis elimination: A literature review
TLDR
A survey of recently published studies on OBI rates across all continents found that high prevalence rates of OBI are observed in some specific groups, including patients with hepatitis C virus, human immunodeficiency virus co‐infection or hepatocellular carcinoma.
Current situation of viral hepatitis in Egypt
TLDR
Viral hepatitis is one of the major public health concerns in Egypt that need more attention and funding from health policymakers.

Occult hepatitis B virus infection among Egyptian blood donors.
TLDR
Univariate and multivariate logistic analysis for identifying risk factors associated with anti- HBc and HBV-DNA positivity among blood donors showed that age above thirty and marriage were the most significant risk factors for prediction of anti-HBc positivity with AOR 1.8 and 1.4 respectively.
Screening for hepatitis B virus infection in Egyptian blood donors negative for hepatitis B surface antigen
TLDR
The overall prevalence of HBV-DNA in healthy blood donors was 10% among isolated anti-HBc-positive individuals, and HBV DNA testing of only anti- HBc positive units is less expensive, can reduce the risk of transfusion-transmitted HBV infection and the rejection rate of the precious units of collected blood positive for anti-SBV only.
Antibody to hepatitis B core antigen as a screening test for occult hepatitis B virus infection in Egyptian chronic hepatitis C patients
TLDR
A significant number of patients with anti-HBc had detectable levels of HBV-DNA in the serum, and Egyptian chronic HCV patients have a high prevalence of occult HBV infection.
Seroprevalence and risk factors of hepatitis B virus infection among health care workers at the Institute of Neurology.
OBJECTIVES To define the seroepidemiology of Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection among health care workers (HCWs) in the Institute of Neurology, and to evaluate the risk factors of HBV markers.
Risk factors for hepatitis C virus infection among Egyptian healthcare workers in a national liver diseases referral centre.
[Study on intrauterine infection of hepatitis B virus in pregnant women with hepatitis B surface antigen and hepatitis B e antigen negative].
TLDR
HBV intrauterine infection is possible in pregnant women with HBsAg and HBeAg negative and Detecting HBV-DNA in sera and PBMCs of pregnant women and their newborns by PCR is important clinical significance.
Response of health care workers with isolated antibody to hepatitis B core antigen to hepatitis B vaccine.
TLDR
The response elicited by a single dose of HB vaccine administered to patients with antiHBc may serve as an indicator of occult HBV infection.
