TLDR
Chronic dermatophytosis was characterized by immediate reactions to purified trichophytin and few delayed reactions, and patients not chronically infected were characterized by delayed reactions and few immediate reactions.
Immediate and delayed hypersensitivity in chronic dermatophytosis.
TLDR
Patients with chronic dermatophytosis appear to have a relatively specific defect in DH to trichophytin, but their cell-mediated responses to other antigens may also be somewhat decreased.
Immunological reactivity in dermatophytosis
TLDR
Patients with Trichophyton mentagrophytes and T. rubrum infections were compared in terms of cutaneous responses and in vitro lymphocyte reactivity to trichophytin and other antigens; positive lymphocyte responses correlated with the presence of delayed but not immediate cutaneous reactions.
A simple stain for rapid office diagnosis of fungus infections of the skin.
TLDR
Direct microscopy using potassium hydroxide as a clearing agent is a diagnostic procedure commonly used for the detection of fungal hyphae in suspected dermatophytoses, tinea versicolor, and candidiasis, but it lacks sensitivity and often the physician must rely on culture results.
Studies on tricophytin sensitivity.
The trichophytin test has been assumed to be analogous to the tuberculin test. However, whereas the tuberculin test is regarded as indicating present or past infection, there is less direct evidence
A New Biological Stain for General Purposes
IT was accidentally discovered while dissecting small Crustacea under spirit on a background of black velvet, that a dye dissolved very slightly in spirit and stained the chitin a distinct green.
