Spectral energy distribution (SED) analyses that include new millimeter to far-infrared (FIR) observations obtained with continuum instruments on the Nobeyama and James Clerk Maxwell Telescopes and the Infrared Space Observatory are presented for seven nearby (<45 Mpc) FIR-bright elliptical galaxies. These are analyzed together with archival FIR and shortwave radio data obtained from the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED). The radio to infrared SEDs are best-fitted by power law plus… Expand

Spatially Resolved Imaging at 350 μm of Cold Dust in Nearby Elliptical Galaxies
Continuum observations at 350 μm of seven nearby elliptical galaxies for which CO gas disks have recently been resolved with interferometry mapping are presented. These SHARC II mapping resultsExpand
Dust in Hot Plasma of Nearby Dusty Elliptical Galaxies Observed with the Spitzer Space Telescope
We report on mid- and far-IR Spitzer observations of 7 nearby dusty elliptical galaxies by using the Multiband Imaging Photometer (MIPS) and Infrared Spectrograph (IRS). Our sample galaxies are knownExpand
Multiphase ISM in Nearby Early Type Galaxy IC 5063
A multiwavelength study of a nearby dust lane early-type galaxy IC 5063 is presented. The objectives are to investigate dust extinction properties and the association of interstellar dust with otherExpand
NGC 4370: A case study for testing our ability to infer dust distribution and mass in nearby galaxies
Context. A segment of the early-type galaxy population hosts a prominent dust lane, often decoupled from its stellar body. Methods of quantifying the dust content of these systems based on opticalExpand
MILLIMETER RADIO CONTINUUM EMISSIONS AS THE ACTIVITY OF SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOLES IN NEARBY EARLY-TYPE GALAXIES AND LOW-LUMINOSITY ACTIVE GALACTIC NUCLEI
We conducted millimeter continuum observations for samples of nearby early-type galaxies (21 sources) and nearby low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (LLAGNs; 16 sources) at 100 GHz ({lambda}3 mm)Expand
Properties of dust in early-type galaxies
We report optical extinction properties of dust for a sample of 26 early-type galaxies based on the analysis of their multicolour CCD observations. The wavelength dependence of dust extinction forExpand
Dust evolution with active galactic nucleus feedback in elliptical galaxies
Abstract We have recently suggested that dust growth in the cold gas phase dominates the dust abundance in elliptical galaxies while dust is efficiently destroyed in the hot X-ray emitting plasmaExpand
The Spitzer View of FR-I Radio Galaxies
We present Spitzer mid-infrared (MIR) spectra of 25 FR I radio galaxies and investigate the nature of their MIR continuum emission. MIR spectra of star-forming galaxies and quiescent ellipticalExpand
An Investigation of the Dust Content in the Galaxy pair NGC 1512/1510 from Near-Infrared to Millimeter Wavelengths
We combine new ASTE/AzTEC 1.1 mm maps of the galaxy pair NGC 1512/1510 with archival Spitzer IRAC and MIPS images covering the wavelength range 3.6-160 ?m from the SINGS project. The availability ofExpand
H-ATLAS/GAMA: Dusty early-type galaxies and passive spirals
We present the dust properties and star-formation histories of local submillimetre-selected galaxies in Herschel-ATLAS, classified by optical morphology. The early-type galaxies (ETGs) that areExpand

Dust in Hot Gas: Far-Infrared Emission from Three Local Elliptical Galaxies
We present far-IR Infrared Space Observatory observations of three early-type galaxies in the Virgo Cluster. The data were recorded using the ISOPHOT instrument in both the P32 oversampled maps andExpand
Millimeter and submillimeter continuum emission from early-type galaxies
Twenty-two early-type galaxies that were detected by IRAS have been searched for continuum emission at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths using the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT). IRASExpand
Cold Dust in Early-Type Galaxies. I. Observations*
We describe far-infrared observations of early-type galaxies selected from the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) archive. This rather inhomogeneous sample includes 39 giant elliptical galaxies and 14Expand
SCUBA observations of the elliptical galaxy NGC 4374
We present SCUBA imaging and photometry of the elliptical galaxy NGC 4374. The imaging observations are used to examine the spatial distribution of thermal emission from dust and theExpand
Far-Infrared Spectral Observations of the Galaxy by COBE
We derive Galactic continuum spectra from 5-96 cm(-1) fromCOBE/FIRAS observations. The spectra are dominated by warm dust emission, which may be fitted with a single temperature in the range 16-21 KExpand
Millimeter and submillimeter observations of nearby radio galaxies
Radio galaxies are often observed to be strong long wavelength infrared sources. Twenty-six radio galaxies with strong compact cores were observed at wavelengths near 1 mm with the James ClerkExpand
Infrared to millimetre photometry of ultra-luminous ir galaxies: new evidence favouring a 3-stage dust model
Infrared to millimetre spectral energy distributions (SEDs) have been obtained for 41 bright ultra- luminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs). The observations were carried out with ISOPHOT between 10 andExpand
Infrared Emission from Interstellar Dust. II. The Diffuse Interstellar Medium
We present a quantitative model for the infrared emission from dust in the diffuse interstellar medium. The model consists of a mixture of amorphous silicate grains and carbonaceous grains, each withExpand
DUST IN THE CORES OF EARLY-TYPE GALAXIES
The dust properties of all early-type galaxies imaged with the Planetary Camera of the Hubble Space Telescope in cycles I-III are examined. Dust is detected in 31 out of 64 galaxies, although theExpand
Far-Infrared Emission From E and E/S0 Galaxies
Early-type galaxies are filled with hot X-ray-emitting gas, but the study of the less plentiful cold gaseous component has been more challenging. Studies of cold material through IRAS 60 and 100 μmExpand
