Abstract The behaviour of an animal community, depicted as a sonic-scattering layer by a Ross Laboratories 200 kHz echosounder, was observed during the total solar eclipse on 30 June, 1973. Observations were made at a position in the center of the path of eclipse totality, 40 miles north of Santo Antao, Cape Verde Islands.
