In crystals, two bands may cross each other and form degeneracies along a closed loop in the three-dimensional momentum space, which is called nodal line. Nodal line degeneracies can be designed to exhibit nodal rings, chains, links and knots. With rich global topological structure and other peculiar properties, such as diverse surface state variations, nodal links have attracted extensive theoretical attentions. However, they impose stringent requirements on the Hamiltonian form and hence have…

Experimental discovery of nodal chains

Three-dimensional Weyl and Dirac nodal points1 have attracted widespread interest across multiple disciplines and in many platforms but allow for few structural variations. In contrast, nodal

Topological semimetals with a double-helix nodal link

Topological nodal line semimetals are characterized by the crossing of the conduction and valence bands along one or more closed loops in the Brillouin zone. Usually, these loops are either isolated

Experimental observation of bulk nodal lines and electronic surface states in ZrB2

Topological nodal-line semimetals are characterized by line-contact bulk band crossings and topological surface states. Breaking certain protecting symmetry turns this system into a Dirac semimetal

Evolution of nodal lines and knot transitions in topological semimetals

Topological nodal line semimetals are known to host chained, linked or knotted line degeneracies protected by symmetries. Recently, the topological nodal chain semimetals have been observed in

Nodal rings and drumhead surface states in phononic crystals

3D nodal ring dispersion and topological drumhead surface states for acoustic waves in a phononic crystal are experimentally demonstrated and provided an ideal platform to explore the intriguing properties of acoustic waves endowed with extraordinary dispersions.

Topological Hopf and Chain Link Semimetal States and Their Application to Co_{2}MnGa.

It is proposed that the presence of perpendicular crystalline mirror planes can protect three-dimensional band crossings characterized by nontrivial links such as a Hopf link or a coupled chain, giving rise to a variety of new types of topological semimetals.

Band Topology and Linking Structure of Nodal Line Semimetals with Z_{2} Monopole Charges.

It is proposed that pair creation and annihilation of nodal lines with Z_{2} monopole charges can mediate a topological phase transition between a normal insulator and a three-dimensional weak Stiefel-Whitney insulator.

Topological nodal line semimetals

We review the recent, mainly theoretical, progress in the study of topological nodal line semimetals in three dimensions. In these semimetals, the conduction and the valence bands cross each other

Nodal-chain metals

It is argued that the presence of the nodal-chain fermions will result in anomalous magnetotransport properties, distinct from those of materials exhibiting previously known excitations.

Drumhead Surface States and Topological Nodal-Line Fermions in TlTaSe2

A topological nodal-line semimetal is a new condensed matter state with one-dimensional bulk nodal lines and two-dimensional drumhead surface bands. Based on first-principles calculations and our
