Colpocleisis is an effective surgical treatment for pelvic organ prolapse in elderly women who do not wish to preserve the vagina for sexual intercourse. Colpocleisis provides good relief of pelvic floor symptoms without significant morbidity. The morbidity and mortality associated with the surgery is largely related to the health status of this elderly segment of the population.
