  • Context Middle-aged adults who are overweight or obese may have shorter life expectancies than normal-weight adults, but how much shorter? Contribution This analysis of data from the Framingham Heart Study from 1948 to 1990 showed that, on average, adults who were obese (body mass index [BMI] 30 kg/m2) at age 40 years lived 6 to 7 years less than their normal-weight counterparts.
