This paper considers aspects of synchronising an OFDM system for powerline communications. A comprehensive analytical model of the demodulated signal in the receiver is derived, including all errors introduced by synchronization mismatch. The occurring errors are separated in static and dynamic distortion, thus pointing out the necessity to have the two steps of synchronization: first an acquisition and second a tracking stage.
