The discovery of ABO blood group system by Karl Landesteiner in 1900 was not the complete key for the related issues concerning hemolytic transfusion, whose solution was not found until the discovery of Rh factor. It happened in 1937, by Weiner and Landesteiner. The Rh factor discovery also was important to elucidate the cause for the hemolytic perinatal disease.
