Let's Talk Nursing provides a foundation of persistently held beliefs about what is central to nursing. This foundation secures nursing's relevance in the relentless flux of reform when otherwise we might well be rudderless. Knowing what one believes and finding expression for those beliefs in what we do and what we can do has been a torturous test from the outset of modern, organised. nursing in the 19th century. This test becomes all the more complex and more dependent on the clarity of nursing's purpose. It has always been the case that our practice environments and the agendas that construct and control those environments are sites of embedded and competing values. These have consequently impacted upon service planning, policy, and funding.
