}Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, multi-system inflammatory disease. The incidence and prevalence of RA varies considerably between geographic areas and over time; the prevalence of RA in adults aged > 20 years in Spain is around 0.5% (Carmona et al, 2002). People with RA also have extra-articular manifestations, presenting an increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality risk; therefore, cardiovascular risk screening and management strategies are necessary in individuals with RA. - 2016
It is found that trained nurses were undertaking CVR assessment and management in different settings and groups of patients, and this is considered to be a highly relevant task for rheumatology nursing, especially in patients with IA.

- Medicine, Psychology
- 2015
Sleep disturbance was more strongly correlated with psychological state rather than disease activity and physical state and addressing sleep disturbance symptoms may improve not only psychological state but also PGA, resulting in achievement of remission.

Data suggest that allele 1 of the IL-1 β gene and allele1 of theIL-1ra gene represent a susceptibility factor in the development of carotid atherosclerosis in RA patients.
Evaluation of the impact of nursing clinics in the rheumatology services
- MedicineRheumatology International
- 2016
The presence of NCR in the rheumatology services contributes to improve some clinical outcomes, a lower frequency of primary care consultations and better work productivity of patients with rheumatic diseases.

A gap in knowledge exists regarding detailed information on individual risk factors in RA, their prevalence and modifications that occur as a result of inflammation or treatment, and more studies are needed to develop methods for accurate CV risk estimation in RA.

It is suggested that physically inactive RA patients have significantly worse CVD risk profile compared with physically active patients, and the possible beneficial impact of increased physical activity to the CVDrisk of RA patients needs to be accurately assessed in prospective studies.

Ten recommendations were made for CV risk management in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, and the strength of the recommendations differed between RA on the one hand, and AS and PsA, on the other, as evidence for an increased CV risk is most compelling for RA.
