We report numerical evidence of Hawking emission of Bogoliubov phonons from a sonic horizon in a flowing one-dimensional atomic Bose–Einstein condensate. The presence of Hawking radiation is revealed from peculiar long-range patterns in the density–density correlation function of the gas. Quantitative agreement between our fully microscopic calculations and the prediction of analog models is obtained in the hydrodynamic limit. New features are predicted and the robustness of the Hawking signal…

Bogoliubov Theory of acoustic Hawking radiation in Bose-Einstein Condensates

We apply the microscopic Bogoliubov theory of dilute Bose-Einstein condensates to analyze quantum and thermal fluctuations in a flowing atomic condensate in the presence of a sonic horizon. For the

Steplike discontinuities in Bose-Einstein condensates and Hawking radiation: The hydrodynamic limit

We present a detailed analytical analysis of the propagation of Bogoliubov phonons on top of Bose-Einstein condensates with spatial and temporal step-like discontinuities in the hydrodynamic limit

Departing from Thermality of Analogue Hawking Radiation in a Bose-Einstein Condensate.

The taking into account of evanescent channels and of zero modes makes it possible to accurately reproduce recent experimental measurements of the density correlation function, and the determination of Hawking temperature is discussed.

Understanding Hawking radiation from simple models of atomic Bose-Einstein condensates

This chapter is an introduction to the Bogoliubov theory of dilute Bose condensates as applied to the study of the spontaneous emission of phonons in a stationary condensate flowing at supersonic

Acoustic analog of Hawking radiation in quantized circular superflows of Bose-Einstein condensates

We propose emulation of Hawking radiation by means of acoustic excitations propagating on top of a persistent current in an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate loaded in an annular confining potential.

Quantum fluctuations around black hole horizons in Bose-Einstein condensates

We study several realistic configurations allowing to realize an acoustic horizon in the flow of a one dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate. In each case we give an analytical description of the flow

Statistical Entropy of an Acoustic Black Hole in Bose-Einstein Condensates

The entanglement entropy of an acoustic black hole in a Bose—Einstein condensates (BEC) is derived, which is associated with the phonons generated via the Hawking mechanism in a sonic hole.

Black hole lasers in Bose–Einstein condensates

We consider elongated condensates that cross twice the speed of sound. In the absence of periodic boundary conditions, the phonon spectrum possesses a discrete and finite set of complex frequency

Steplike discontinuities in Bose-Einstein condensates and Hawking radiation: Dispersion effects

In this paper we extend the hydrodynamic results of [1] and study, analytically, the propagation of Bogoliubov phonons on top of Bose-Einstein condensates with step-like discontinuities by taking

Nonlocal density correlations as a signature of Hawking radiation from acoustic black holes

We have used the analogy between gravitational systems and nonhomogeneous fluid flows to calculate the density-density correlation function of an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate in the presence of an

Hawking radiation in sonic black holes.

The quantum treatment of the noninteracting case establishes a close relationship between sonic Hawking radiation and quantum tunneling through the barrier, and the possibility for experimental verification of this new transport phenomenon for ultracold atoms is discussed.

Gibbons-Hawking effect in the sonic de Sitter space-time of an expanding Bose-Einstein-condensed gas.

It is shown that a two-level system created at the center of the trap, an atomic quantum dot interacting with phonons, observes a thermal Bose distribution at the de Sitter temperature.

Towards the Observation of Hawking Radiation in Bose–Einstein Condensates

Acoustic analogues of black holes (dumb holes) are generated when a supersonic fluid flow entrains sound waves and forms a trapped region from which sound cannot escape. The surface of no return, the

Phonon background versus analog Hawking radiation in Bose-Einstein condensates

We determine the feasibility of detecting analogue Hawking radiation in a Bose-Einstein condensate in the presence of atom loss induced heating. We find that phonons created by three-body losses

Sonic analog of gravitational black holes in bose-einstein condensates

It is shown that, in dilute-gas Bose-Einstein condensates, there exist both dynamically stable and unstable configurations which, in the hydrodynamic limit, exhibit a behavior resembling that of

On the origin of the particles in black hole evaporation

We present an analytic derivation of Hawking radiation for an arbitrary (spatial) dispersion relation $\omega(k)$ as a model for ultra-high energy deviations from general covariance. It turns out

Quantum De Laval Nozzle: Stability And Quantum Dynamics Of Sonic Horizons In A Toroidally Trapped Bose Gas Containing A superflow.

We study an experimentally realizable system containing stable black hole–white hole acoustic horizons in toroidally trapped Bose-Einstein condensates—the quantum de Laval nozzle. We numerically

We introduce the study of dynamical quantum noise in Bose-Einstein condensates through numerical simulation of stochastic partial differential equations obtained using phase-space representations. We

Analog model of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe in Bose-Einstein condensates: Application of the classical field method

Analog models of gravity have been motivated by the possibility of investigating phenomena not readily accessible in their cosmological counterparts. In this paper, we investigate the analog of
