In this work we introduce a procedure to find localized structures with finite energy. We start dealing with global monopoles, and add a new contribution to the potential of the scalar fields, to balance the contribution of the angular gradients of the fields which lead to a slow falloff in the energy density. Within the first order formalism, first order equations that are compatible with the equations of motion are obtained and the stability under small fluctuations is investigated. We then… Expand
Analytical scalar field solutions on Lifshitz spacetimes
In this work, we investigate the existence of analytic solutions of static scalar fields on Lifshitz spacetimes. We evade Derrick’s theorem on curved spacetimes by breaking general covariance and useExpand

Geometrically constrained kinklike configurations
In this work, we study kinklike structures, which are localized solutions that appear in models described by real scalar fields. The model to be considered is characterized by two real scalar fieldsExpand

This work solves numerically the coupled equations for the metric and the scalar field, to precisely determine this repulsive gravitational potential and in order to analyze the solution when gravitational effects are already significant close to the monopole core. Expand

A class of noncanonical effective potentials is introduced allowing stable, radially symmetric, solutions to first order Bogomol’nyi equations for a real scalar field in a fixed spacetime background.Expand
Instabilities and interactions of global topological defects
Abstract The dynamics of global topological defects are investigated. The stability towards radial rescaling of global monopoles and vortices is verified and virial theorems connecting the potentialExpand
Vortices and impurities
A bstractWe describe the BPS dynamics of vortices in the presence of impurities. We argue that a moduli space of solitons survives the addition of both electric and magnetic impurities. However,Expand
BPS property and its breaking in 1+1 dimensions
We show that the BPS property is a generic feature of field theories in (1+1) dimensions, which does not put any restriction on the action. Here, by BPS solutions we understand static solutions whichExpand
Stability of global monopoles revisited.
It is shown that, in spite of the existence of a conserved topological charge, the energy barrier between the monopole and the vacuum is finite even in the limit where the cutoff is taken to infinity. Expand
Solitons in systems of coupled scalar fields
Abstract We present a method to obtain soliton solutions to relativistic systems of coupled scalar fields. This is done by examining the energy associated to static field configurations. In this caseExpand
Magnetic field delocalization and flux inversion in fractional vortices in two-component superconductors.
