Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is one of the most common types of leukemia diagnosed in the Western Hemisphere. Introduction of the purine analogs has improved outcome for patients with CLL as measured by improvements in disease-free survival and has made it possible to attain a complete remission in a minority of patients with this disease.
