Glyoxysomes are present in etiolated cotyledons and contain enzymes for gluconeogenesis, which constitutes the major function of glyoxysomes. However, 281 genes seemingly related to peroxisomal functions occur in the Arabidopsis genome, implying that many unidentified proteins are present in glyoxysomes.
