Conventional glass bonding methods do not fill all the requirements set by the industry. A novel hermetic room temperature glass welding technology was investigated. The aim was to avoid additive materials and multistep manufacturing process as well as minimize the heat affect. However, a good quality hermetic, mechanically sound bond was desired. In this study, a temperature cycling test was performed to glass samples welded with this novel technology. Notable advantages of using the novel…

Reproducible process regimes during glass welding by bursts of subpicosecond laser pulses.

During welding of glass with ultrafast lasers, an irregular formation of weld seams was prevented by modulation of the average laser power and spatial beam shaping, resulting in a predictable and reproducible weld seam with a regular structure.

Process monitoring based on plasma emission for power-modulated glass welding with bursts of subpicosecond laser pulses.

It is shown that the plasma emission provides information about irregularities of the welded seam height, gap bridging, process interruptions, and the position of the seam.

Fabrication and characterization of MEMS alkali vapor cells used in chip-scale atomic clocks and other atomic devices

Atomic clocks are timekeeping devices that can achieve extreme performance in terms of stability and accuracy. Behind this name, hides a variety of different systems which size and complexity can be

Process regimes during welding of glass by femtosecond laser pulse bursts.

A comprehensive understanding of the various process regimes can be exploited to use the regimes according to their specific advantages, especially for industrial applications.

Culture and Computing

This work addresses the case of remains of ancient musical instruments, and in particular the case study of a brass instrument from the Roman Empire period, found in Voghenza (Italy), which was digitized by means of a structured light system, then virtually restored and recomposed applying a on-purpose developed algorithm.

Culture and Computing: 8th International Conference, C&C 2020, Held as Part of the 22nd HCI International Conference, HCII 2020, Copenhagen, Denmark, July 19–24, 2020, Proceedings

It is concluded that mood boards are a enough good tool to investigate and use unconscious emotions what is relevant for addressing design challenges in different contexts.

Laser welding of quartz glass workpieces

The problem of fabricating quart-glass cuvettes by welding with CO2 laser radiation is solved. A thermophysical analysis of the process is performed and its mathematical model is constructed. The
