Differential methods of optical flow estimation are based on partial spatial and temporal derivatives of the image signal. In this paper, the comparison between background modeling technique and Lucas-Kanade optical flow has been done for object detection. Background subtraction methods need the background model from hundreds of images whereas the LucasKanade optical flow estimation method is a differential two frames algorithm, because it needs two frames in order to work.
