Aim:  In Japan, the etiology of 10–20% of cases of acute hepatitis remains unclarified. This study was conducted to verify the agent causing non‐A–E hepatitis.
Lack of KIs virus DNA in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid in Italy.
TLDR
KIs-V is analyzed in 242 plasma samples of blood donors, transplant recipients, and patients with chronic viral infections, and in 52 cerebrospinal fluid samples of patients with different neurological disorders to demonstrate a very low prevalence of this novel virus in the Italian population.
Cryptic Hepatitis B and E in Patients With Acute Hepatitis of Unknown Etiology.
TLDR
NGS-based detection of HBV and HEV infections is more sensitive than using commercially available assays and may be cryptically associated with HUE.
KIs Virus and Blood Donors, France
TLDR
KIs virus (KIs-V) is a putative new virus identified recently in the blood of persons in Japan, and its genetic diversity is presumed to be extremely low because the 4 complete genomes already characterized in Japan harbor strict identical sequences.
Development of an Immunoassay for Detection of Torque Teno Virus (TTV) Antibodies Using the N22 Expression Product from TTV Genotype 2
TLDR
The present immunoassay using the N22 expression product may be used as an alternative to PCR to detect TTV infection in large populations.
Detection of Virus-Related Sequences Associated With Potential Etiologies of Hepatitis in Liver Tissue Samples From Rats, Mice, Shrews, and Bats
TLDR
This study is the first to compare the viral communities in the liver of bats, rats, mice, and house shrews and provide an insight into hepatitis-related viruses.
Usefulness of School Absenteeism Data for Predicting Influenza Outbreaks, United States
TLDR
Using the PCR detection system adopted by Satoh et al., combined with the extraction of large plasma volumes, the authors were not able to detect KIs-V DNA in the blood of donors tested, suggesting an uncommon frequency in healthy persons in France.
Usefulness of School Absenteeism Data for Predicting Influenza Outbreaks, United States
TLDR
To determine the threshold and pattern in lagged days that best predicts an outbreak of absenteeism and fever/influenza syndrome, the algorithm developed by Sasaki et al. for use with all-cause absenteeism data from NYC schools was applied to the absenteeism z-score time series.

Polyphyletic Strains of Hepatitis E Virus Are Responsible for Sporadic Cases of Acute Hepatitis in Japan
TLDR
It is indicated that multiple genotypes of HEV cocirculate in Japan and contribute to the development of sporadic acute hepatitis, with the prevalence differing by age, sex, and geographic region.
A novel DNA virus (TTV) associated with elevated transaminase levels in posttransfusion hepatitis of unknown etiology.
TLDR
Results indicate that TTV would be a novel DNA virus with a possible capacity to induce posttransfusion non-A to G hepatitis.
Pig liver sausage as a source of hepatitis E virus transmission to humans.
TLDR
The findings strongly support the hypothesis of HEV infection through ingestion of raw figatellu, a traditional pig liver sausage widely eaten in France and commonly consumed raw, as a source ofHEV infection.
Identification of two flavivirus-like genomes in the GB hepatitis agent.
TLDR
Limited sequence identity with various isolates of hepatitis C virus and the relative positions of putative RNA helicases and RNA-dependent RNA polymerases in the predicted protein products of these molecules suggested that the GB agent contains two unique flavivirus-like genomes.
Dynamic Epidemiology of Acute Viral Hepatitis in Japan
TLDR
The etiology of AVH in Japan has been drastically changing, with a marked increase of AHB genotype A and constant occurrence of autochthonous AHE require attention, and necessary measures should be taken.
Etiology of sporadic acute viral hepatitis in Taiwan: The role of hepatitis C virus, hepatitis E virus and GB virus‐C/hepatitis G virus in an endemic area of hepatitis A and B
TLDR
The etiology of sporadic acute hepatitis was studied in 334 consecutive patients from Taiwan, with emphasis on the role of hepatitis C virus, hepatitis E virus, and GB virus‐C/hepatitis G virus in acute non‐A, non‐B (NANB) hepatitis and in HBsAg carriers with superimposed acute hepatitis.
Consumption of uncooked deer meat as a risk factor for hepatitis E virus infection: An age‐ and sex‐matched case‐control study
TLDR
The results suggest that eating uncooked deer meat is an epidemiological risk factor for HEV infection in the studied area and attention must be paid to this route of HEV infections in countries such as Japan.
Genomic organization of GB viruses A and B: two new members of the Flaviviridae associated with GB agent hepatitis
TLDR
The degree of sequence divergence between GBV-A andGBV-B and other Flaviviridae members demonstrates that the GB agents are representatives of two new genera within the Flaviviralidae family.
