Going deep: models for continuous-time within-play valuation of game outcomes in American football with tracking data
TLDR
A general framework for continuous-time within-play valuation in the National Football League using player-tracking data is introduced and an extension with conditional density estimation is demonstrated so that the expectation of any measure of play value can be calculated in continuous- time, which was never before possible at such a granular level.
The area-of-interest problem in eyetracking research: A noise-robust solution for face and sparse stimuli
TLDR
It is concluded that large AOIs are a noise-robust solution in face stimuli and, when implemented using the Voronoi method, are the most objective of the researcher-defined AOI.
Modeling of rigid foams
The morphology and elastic properties of foams are investigated using models accounting for the cellular structure. Different modeling approaches are evaluated and compared to the cellular structur
Tetrahedral mesh optimization and generation via topological transformations and gradient based node perturbation
TLDR
A general tetrahedral mesh optimization scheme utilizing both topological changes and gradient-based vertex optimization (i.e. smoothing) is demonstrated, used in the optimized meshes created by third-party software as well as a grid generation methodology created for this work.
Development and application of new techniques for global travel times and source location
TLDR
Empirical travel times determined using empirical travel times are 59% more accurate than the smallest average mislocation found using 3D models and station corrections, and a strong correlation is found between the entropy of earthquake clusters and tectonic setting.
Cut Locus and Medial Axis in Global Shape Interrogation and Representation
The cut locus CA of a closed set A in the Euclidean space E is defined as the closure of the set containing all points p which have at least two shortest paths to A. We present a theorem stating that
FROM POSITIVE DEFINITE QUADRATIC FORMS TO LATTICE SPHERE PACKINGS AND COVERINGS
This text is based on notes of lectures held at the Oberwolfach Seminar on “Sphere Packings” in November 2005 and at the Otto-vonGuericke University of Magdeburg in April/May 2006. Be aware: This
VORONOI COMPLEXES IN HIGHER DIMENSIONS, COHOMOLOGY OF $GL_N (Z)$ FOR $N\ge 8$ AND THE TRIVIALITY OF $K_8 (Z)$
We enumerate the low dimensional cells in the Voronoi cell complexes attached to the modular groups $SL_N (Z)$ and $GL_N (Z)$ for $N = 8, 9, 10, 11$, using quotient sublattices techniques for $N = 8,
