This genus was recently described by Dr. Speiser and is a very characteristic one, on account of its elongate and slender body and bare 3rd longitudinal vein. The species belonging here, as long ago pointed out by Loew, have a great resemblance to those of the genus Elaphromyia , but they are at once distinguished by the thin and black occipital row, by the pointed lower angle of the anal cell and by the non-reticulate wing pattern. The genus is evidently allied to Ocneros , but has nothing to… Expand
Taxonomic revision of the fruit fly genus Perilampsis Bezzi (Diptera, Tephritidae)
The Afrotropical fruit fly genus Perilampsis Austen is revised. In total, 17 species are recognized of which three are new to science: P. deemingi sp. nov., P. incohata sp. nov., and P. rubella sp.Expand
OBSERVATIONS ON THE BIOLOGY AND BEHAVIOUR OF PARACERATITELLA EURYCEPHALA (DIPTERA: TEPHRITIDAE) IN NORTHERN AUSTRALIA
TLDR
Observation of mating behaviour showed that P. eurycqhala did not utilise wing movements and posturing during courtship as in many other picture-winged tephritids, suggesting that this species uses an oviposition-deterring pheromone to reduce the possibility of larval overcrowding in the relatively small host. Expand
Revision of the fruit fly genus Capparimyia (Diptera, Tephritidae)
Capparimyia Bezzi is revised and eight species recognized, of which four are new: C. aenigma sp. nov., C. maerua sp. nov., C. mirabilis sp. nov., and C. spatulata sp. nov. A lectotype is designatedExpand
Systematics of Schistopterini (Diptera: Tephritidae: Tephritinae), with descriptions of new genera and species
TLDR
The systematics of tribe Schistopterini (Diptera: Tephritidae) is reviewed and a key is given to the fourteen current genera, of which four are new, supporting the monophyly of Microtreta. Expand
Phylogenetic Revision of Acanthiophilus (Diptera: Tephritidae), with a Description of Three New Species and a Discussion of Zoogeography
TLDR
A dispersal-vicariance analysis suggests that the genus originated in Africa and dispersed from it to other parts of the world following climate changes and the dispersal of its host plants. Expand
Revision of the Oriental Genera of Plastotephritinae (Diptera: Platystomatidae)
TLDR
Examination of large amounts of undetermined material have led to the recognition of a new genus, Rhegmatosaga, in the subfamily Plastotephritinae of the Oriental Region, and a redescription of the latter genus is also included. Expand
THE TEPHRITIDAE (DIPTERA) OF THE MADEIRAN ARCHIPELAGO, PORTUGAL
TLDR
The Tephritidae (Diptera) of the Madeiran Archipelago, Portugal is reviewed and eleven new fruit fly ‐ host plant relations are recorded. Expand
A study of Afreutreta Bezzi and related genera (Diptera: Tephritidae: Tephritinae)
TLDR
The monotypic Chipingomyia Hancock (with C. manica Hancock) is shown to be unrelated to the Afreutreta group and is transferred from the Tephritini to the Aciurini. Expand
An integrative approach to unravel the Ceratitis FAR (Diptera, Tephritidae) cryptic species complex: a review
TLDR
All information gathered from different disciplines and studies to resolve the species status within the Ceratitis FAR (Ceratitis fasciventris), a group of polyphagous fruit fly pest species from Africa, is reviewed. Expand
Grass-breeding fruit flies and their allies of Africa and Asia (Diptera: Tephritidae: Ceratitidinae)
TLDR
The African genera Bistrispinaria Speiser, Clinotaenia Bezzi and Leucotaeniella Bezzi are reviewed and Pardalaspinus Hering, Notophosa Zia and Ceratitisoma Zia placed as new synonyms are discussed. Expand
