Black flies are commonly infected by pathogenic species or Microsporidia, Mermithidae, and the fungal parasite Coelomycidium simulii . One of the first significant reports on nematode parasites of Simuliidae in the U. S. was by Anderson & DeFoliart (1962, Ann. Ent. Soc. Amer. 55 : 542–46).
