The chief characteristics of quartz plates cut at various angles to the crystal axes are described, with particular attention to the effect of temperature on frequency of oscillation. Methods of reducing these temperature effects lead to the manufacture of zero temperature coefficient plates. Their application to existing transmitters previously employing X-cut plates is described. Particularly stable oscillators using two crystals in a single circuit are also described.
