The group of species centering around Clavaria kunzei Fr. was first placed in the separate subgenus Ramariopsis, of Clavaria, by Donk (1933). Corner (1950) added a number of species to the group and used the name at the genus rank thereby drawing renewed attention to the group and opening the door to further emendation and species transfer.
