Population transfers in degenerate (or almost degenerate) two-level systems interacting with the few-cycle laser pulse are investigated. A simple and analytical formula of nonadiabatic transition probability is derived with completely degenerate condition, demonstrating the sensitive dependence of the transition probability on the phase of the few-cycle pulses. As one of the applications of this formula, a new way of controlling the nuclear wave packet dynamics at a potential curve crossing by…
Indirect methods to control population distribution in a large spin system
We demonstrate how a large spin system ($S=7/2$) with the ground and the first excited state separated by a seven photon transition exhibit non equilibrium thermodynamic properties and how the

Generation of narrowband inversion with broadband laser pulses.
TLDR
It is shown experimentally and theoretically that picosecond frequency-swept laser pulses create in multilevel systems an inversion profile which is far narrower than the pulse spectrum.
Molecules in Laser Fields
Current laser technology is capable of generating laser fields from the IR to visible wavelength regions in the form of well-tailored sequences of pulses with controllable phase and envelopes (pulse
Control of molecular vibrational excitation and dissociation by chirped intense infrared laser pulses. Rotational effects
We extend our previous studies on control of dissociation and vibrational excitation of a diatomic molecule using chirped, intense, infrared laser pulses [Phys. Rev. Lett. 65, 2355 (1990)]. The
Control of selectivity of chemical reaction via control of wave packet evolution
A time‐dependent formulation of two‐photon spectroscopy is employed to show that selectivity of reactivity can be achieved via coherent two‐photon processes. The problem of finding the optimum
Phase dependence of enhanced ionization in asymmetric molecules.
We study enhanced ionization (EI) in asymmetric molecules by solving the 3D time-dependent Schrödinger equation for HeH2+ driven by a few-cycle laser pulse linearly polarized along the molecular
New way of controlling molecular processes by time-dependent external fields
A new idea of controlling molecular processes by time-dependent external fields is proposed. Molecular processes in external fields are considered to be composed of a sequence of time-dependent
Non-Adiabatic Crossing of Energy Levels
The crossing of energy levels has been a matter of considerable discussion. The essential features may be illustrated in the crossing of a polar and homopolar state of a molecule. Let ψ1 ( x /R), ψ2
Wave-packet dynamics: new physics and chemistry in femto-time
We present a review of wave-packet dynamics, with a focus on 'femto-chemistry'. We review basic theory and simple properties of wave-packets, the application of two-state models to wave-packet
