High brightness-temperature radiation is observed in various astrophysical sources: active galactic nuclei, pulsars, interstellar masers, and flaring stars; the discovery of fast radio bursts renewed interest in the nonlinear interaction of intense radiation with plasma. In astronomical systems, the radiation frequency is typically well above the plasma frequency and its spectrum is broad, so nonlinear processes differ considerably from those typically studied in laboratory plasma. Stimulated Compton scattering of electromagnetic waves in plasma

The so−called stimulated Compton effect is investigated on a one−and−two−halves−dimensional electromagnetic plasma model. This effect results in a parametric instability in which an electromagnetic

Physical processes in eclipsing pulsars: Eclipse mechanisms and diagnostics

We investigate how the radio emission of a pulsar interacts with plasma derived from a stellar companion. Various physical mechanisms that can cause radio pulse eclipse are discussed, and predictions

Persistence of Precursor Waves in Two-dimensional Relativistic Shocks

We investigated the efficiency of coherent upstream large-amplitude electromagnetic wave emission via synchrotron maser instability in relativistic magnetized shocks using two-dimensional

Physics of Interpulse Emission in Radio Pulsars

The magnetized induced Compton scattering off the particles of the ultrarelativistic electron-positron plasma of pulsar is considered. The main attention is paid to the transverse regime of the

Interpretation of the low-frequency peculiarities in the radio profile structure of the Crab pulsar

The theory of magnetized induced scattering off relativistic gyrating particles is developed. It is directly applicable to the magnetosphere of a pulsar, in which case the particles acquire gyration

On the Structure of Relativistic Collisionless Shocks in Electron-Ion Plasmas

Relativistic collisionless shocks in electron-ion plasmas are thought to occur in the afterglow phase of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and in other environments where relativistic flows interact with the

Formation of the radio profile components of the Crab pulsar

The induced Compton scattering of radio emission off the particles of the ultrarelativistic electron–positron plasma in the open field line tube of a pulsar is considered. We examine the scattering

Fast Radio Bursts from Reconnection in a Magnetar Magnetosphere

The nearly 100% linear polarization has been reported for a few fast radio bursts (FRBs). This finding places severe limits on the emission mechanism. I argue that the completely polarized radiation

Anisotropic induced Compton scattering - Constraints on models of active galactic nuclei

Induced Compton scattering can cause strong spectral distortion when the Thomson scattering optical depth τT exceeds 5 × 10^9 K/T, where T is the brightness temperature. Observations of intraday
