OBJECTIVE To evaluate the feasibility and outcome results of noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) in daily clinical practice outside any prospective protocol-driven trial. DESIGN An observational retrospective cohort study. SETTING A 22-bed medical intensive care unit in a university hospital.
