— A non-linear mechanical model is constructed in order to study the dynamics of DNA double helix. The potential energy of the system is found to be a double-well function with respect to the first derivative of twist angle of the helix. The Lagrangian contains also the second derivative of the twist angle. Due to these facts the evolution equations of the system have kink and pulse solitary-wave solutions.
